Student/Demo Travel
Awards
Student Travel Grants, sponsored by the US National Science
Foundation (www.nsf.gov), are
available for graduate students studying at US universities.
These travel grants are also available to partially support
travel expenses for demo teams from US-based institutions.
Application Deadline: June 15, 2005
Decision Notification Date: July 10, 2005
The IEEE/CreateNet SecureComm organizing committee is pleased to
announce the availability of Student/Demo Team Travel Grants,
sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation. Applications are
invited from qualified GRADUATE STUDENTS studying in
U.S. institutions. Around ten to fifteen awards are expected.
ELIGIBILITY:
Graduate students currently active in the graduate program of
accredited institutions in the United States. For demo teams, the
grant will support part of the team's expenses to present a
research demo at the conference.
WHAT DOES GRANT PROVIDE:
A MAXIMUM of US $1,500 per student, that will include:
- Lodging for up to four nights, subject to:
- Up to Euro 126 per night (this rate will include all meals
if reserved by Aug. 22) at the Hotel Amarilia
- Up to Euro 90 per night if staying elsewhere
- Students are requested to share rooms, as far as possible.
- Economy airfare, on a US-BASED CARRIER ONLY, up to
US $1,000. Please try to use consolidator fares, as far as
possible.
- Local (reasonable) transportation costs to/from
departure/arrival airports
- Early Student Registration Fees
NOTES:
a. Students will be reimbursed (based on receipts) for their
expenses after the conference is over.
b. It is likely that the NSF grant may not cover all your travel
expenses. It is expected that the student find other means to
cover any remaining expenses, eg. Department/Advisor funding,
University travel funds, Graduate Student Association travel
support, etc.
HOW TO APPLY:
An application for a travel award will consist of:
- Letter from the student, including paper title if paper has been
accepted for Securecomm 2005.
- The student's detailed vita, highlighting student's academic
achievements in fields related to the conference.
- Supporting letter from the student's graduate advisor.
The letter from the student should include:
- a brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date
- a description of areas reflected in the conference program that
would impact the student's research.
- why the conference attendance is important to the student.
The student's advisor's recommendation letter to the committee should
include:
- confirmation that the student is a bona-fide Ph.D. or M.S.
candidate in good standing;
- the suitability of the conference program material to the student's
research area;
- ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the
conference; and
- the strengths and potential contributions of the student.

- Students should send their application materials as a
